Support in your rooms, not just on your page

Discovery House works with services face to face on the thing that takes the longest: programming that is genuine, documented and defensible. If you'd like an education specialist to help your team enhance programming, build rating capacity, or create and audit your Quality Improvement Plan, that support is available.

What we can help with

Every service is at a different point. Support is shaped around yours — one room, one team, or the whole service.

Face-to-face programming support

An education specialist works alongside your team in the room — not in a webinar.

  • Planning cycles that start from what you actually observe, and end in documentation you can defend
  • Room-by-room work on observation, reflection and extension so every educator can write the next entry with confidence
  • Practical systems for weekly planning, so programming is consistent across rooms and relieving staff
  • Coaching for educational leaders who want to run team planning without carrying the whole load themselves

Maximising your rating capacity

Get assessment-ready by making your existing practice visible, not by inventing new paperwork.

  • A walkthrough of your practice against the National Quality Standard, quality area by quality area
  • Identifying the evidence you already have, and the gaps that would cost you a rating
  • Preparing educators for the conversation with an authorised officer — what to say, what to show, what to have on hand
  • A realistic improvement sequence, so you strengthen the areas that matter most before the visit

QIP creation and auditing

If your Quality Improvement Plan is gathering dust, that's something I can help with too.

  • Facilitated self-assessment against the NQS and the National Regulations, with your team in the room
  • Writing a QIP that says what you're doing well, what you'll improve, and how you'll know when you've got there
  • Auditing an existing QIP: is it honest, is it current, and would it stand up if asked for on the day?
  • Annual review support, including progress notes that show continuous improvement over time

What ACECQA and your regulator look for

Evidence of practice, not evidence of busy work

Assessment and rating asks whether quality is happening in your rooms and whether you can show it. These are the areas support focuses on first.

Quality Area 1

Educational program and practice

Programming that is child-centred and clearly responsive. Assessors want to see the planning cycle in your documents: what was noticed, what was planned, what happened, what came next — and the outcomes your framework links to.

Quality Areas 2 & 3

Health, safety and the physical environment

Risk assessments that are used rather than filed, supervision arrangements you can explain, and environment checks that actually happen. This is where service forms become evidence.

Quality Area 6

Collaborative partnerships

Communication with families that is genuine and documented, and community partnerships that are more than a photo on the wall.

Quality Area 7

Governance and leadership

Self-assessment that drives real change. Your QIP, staff meetings and professional development should all point to the same priorities — and leadership should be able to show how the service's philosophy shapes practice.

The rating picture, plainly

  • Services are assessed and rated against the 7 quality areas of the National Quality Standard — 15 standards and 40 elements — by their state or territory regulatory authority, and receive a rating for each quality area plus an overall rating.
  • Meeting NQS means the standard is met in practice and is visible in your documentation. Exceeding NQS means going above and beyond that level: practice is embedded in how the service operates, is informed by critical reflection, and is understood and owned by the whole team.
  • A Quality Improvement Plan must include an assessment of your programs and practices against the NQS and National Regulations, identify areas for improvement, and state the service philosophy. It must be updated at least annually and be available on request.
  • Ratings are made by the regulatory authority. Support like this strengthens your practice and your evidence — it is not a guarantee of any particular rating.

How support works

Straightforward, and always with something you can use in the room straight away.

1

Tell us where you are

Email or call and describe your service, your team and what's weighing on you — programming, documentation, an upcoming visit, or a QIP that needs a fresh eye.

2

A first conversation

We talk through your goals and what support would actually change. No obligation — if a pack or two is all you need, I'll tell you that instead.

3

Support at your service

Face-to-face time with your team: in the rooms, over your documents, and in a planning session educators can use the very next week.

4

A plan you can show

You leave with clear priorities, improved documentation and a QIP or improvement plan your team owns — then follow-up when you need it.

Let's talk about your service

Tell us what you're working towards — stronger programming, an assessment and rating visit, or a QIP that finally reflects your practice. We'll tell you honestly whether support is the right next step.
