  • Paper bags
  • Magnifiers
  • Clipboards
  • Pencils
  • Sorting hoops

Step by step

  1. Hand out hunt cards in pairs.
  2. Explore the yard, collecting or sketching finds.
  3. Only collect items already on the ground.
  4. Sort finds into living / non-living hoops.
  5. Share the most surprising find.

  • • Notice detailed sketchers — extend with a nature journal.
  • • Debate over 'living'? Explore a seed or leaf under a microscope.
